Thousand Lives

Cover of Thousand Lives

“Sometimes I can hear my bones straining under the weight of all the lives I am not living”
Jonathan Safran Foer.
Thousand Lives
: Thousand lives trapped in my soul
Burning to enfranchise
To live the lives I am yearning for,
What must I do to find in me the live the lives I possess,
Hercules took my place to labour for the lives
I was supposed to live,
Aladdin’s lamb evades me to wish for more lives
Hades must envy me for I have more lives to live
By Odin’s beard these lives must be lived
I could use a life to go get Zeus’s bolt
Live another one and fall in love with Aphrodite
Pick another life and travel the underworld with Anubis
Live another and rule Uruk with Gilgamesh
Spare another and go on an adventure with Sindbad
Thousand lives trapped in my soul and they are
Telling me stories to live,
The weight of all those lives are heavy on my bones
Trade one life with Samson and carry the weight of thousand stories,
But Alas! I must now perform this Sisyphean task with this
Sole life I chose.
