MEPHISTOPHELES ON MY BACK

Cover of MEPHISTOPHELES ON MY BACK

“Mephistopheles declared to Faust that he desired evil, but did only good”
Fyodor Dostoevsky.

MEPHISTOPHELES ON MY BACK
: I came upon a being on my way to dusk,
It told me she was the embodiment of life,
And spoke of life,
“Dawn, Day, Dusk, Night”
I was in my day and she endowed me with an offering,
Mephistopheles on my back,
Said, “now you are ready to carry Mephistopheles on your back”
I resisted, “but you’ll never know me without it” she said.
Was the last I saw of her,
Now I am both good and evil,
I desire evil but I battle for good
I desire good but evil seeps out
Evil whispers in my ears
But so does goodness
I hope to meet her again when I am night
To return the offering and to be free of Mephistopheles.
